Welcome to Fifth Grade!
I am so excited to join you and your child for their 5th grade experience. This is my 14th year teaching and my 5th year at Lincoln. I grew up in Orland Park and attended the University of Tampa for my undergraduate studies and then the University of South Florida where I earned my Masters degree in Educational Leadership. I taught for 4 years in Tampa before moving home to the Chicagoland area. I taught 5th grade in Hinsdale for one year and then taught 3rd, 5th, and 2nd grade in Chicago Public Schools for before joining Lincoln School. While here, I have taught 5th grade for four years, and 2nd grade for one.
This year I teach 5th grade Reading and Social Studies to two of the fifth grade classes and Writing/Language Arts to my homeroom. My homeroom students will see Mrs. Velazquez for Math and Science this year. We both believe that all of our students are capable of success.
I grew up swimming competitively for the majority of my life. It is swimming that led me to Tampa where I swam all 4 years of college. I come from a family of teachers, my Dad taught driver's education and physical education for 35 years. My mom taught first grade for 35 years, and my sister teaches high school English.
When I am not teaching, you can find me enjoying the city, where I live with my husband, our two year old son, Jack, and our dog, Mimosa Rose.
This year will be full of fun and exciting classroom experiences. I look forward to building strong partnerships with students and their families to make this year their best yet. Fifth grade has many memories to be made!
